I've uncovered some freebies to help you explore what's out there without breaking the bank.  Let me know where your adventures take you.

A not so fun way to save money.
Amid life's certainties, taxes stand as an undeniable truth. However, there exist ways to diminish their weight. Homeowners, in particular, can capitalize on significant tax deductions, including those for mortgage interests, property taxes, and, notably, the expanded array of tax credits for home energy savings under the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. Discover the latest deductions by exploring the Department of Energy's website, Making Our Homes More Efficient: Clean Energy Tax Credits for Consumers | Department of Energy
An often-overlooked realm of potential deductions pertains to home improvements geared towards medical purposes. Delve into the possibility of claiming deductions for renovations that serve medical needs; websites like Home Renovations as Medical Expenses – Tax Guide • 1040.com – File Your Taxes Online offer valuable insights. Surprisingly, portions of the expense of something like a swimming pool can be deductible if intended for therapeutic purposes. It's crucial not to miss out on entitlements that could translate into valuable savings.

HOUSE HOMEWORK

What does 2024 bring for Buyers and Sellers?

According to the recent Atlas Van Lines study, D.C. clinched the 9th position as a top destination for movers in 2023.

The National Association of Realtors (NAR) anticipates a solid 13.5% surge in existing home sales in 2024. While national prices are expected to hold steady, the DMV area stands out. Ranking 10th in markets with pent-up demand suggests potential price boosts above the national average.

What's the takeaway? If you're thinking of buying in 2024, acting sooner rather than later might be wise. Waiting for rates to drop as prices and competition rise could put you at a disadvantage. If you can afford it, buy now and refinance when rates come down.  For sellers, spring seems like prime time to enter the market. Use the coming months to prep your home. This month I would like to highlight Old Town Market in Kensington.

My family has been going to Old Town Market since they opened. My kids would take their allowance and get candy and ice cream.  Founded by a local Kensington family, the Old Town Market has grown from a neighborhood food option to a town-wide sensation. It's known for artisan sandwiches, hearty homemade soups, and freshly baked treats. Customers can enjoy gourmet coffee, soft serve ice cream, and select from a range of fine wines and craft beers to bring home. There are wine tastings on Thursday evenings.  Many neighbors bring their own glass and make an evening of it.  It's the go-to spot for quality and variety in the neighborhood.
